Food Forward and Smith Public Relations have teamed up to share the non-profit’s fruits of success with media and other influentials. Celebrating its fifth anniversary in 2014, the non profit has picked and gathered more than two million pounds of produce from farms, universities, private residences, at the conclusion of farmer’s markets and more. This gleaning and distribution effort has been the result of the effort of more thousands of volunteers
Rick Nahmias, founder and executive director, noticed an abundance of fruit on the ground and subject to waste in his neighborhood and thought that there must be a way to gather and distribute it to local food banks leading to additional distribution points including Boys & Girls Clubs, numerous rescue missions, gay and lesbian housing, elder facilities and other underserved populations.
Food Forward has been the recipient of major grants from Rosenthal Family Foundation, Durfee Foundation, Ralphs/Food 4 Less Foundation, The Ahmanson Foundation, Annenberg Foundation, Max Factor Family Foundation, Yahoo! Employees Foundation, Creative Artist Agency and many others.
Now operating in the San Fernando Valley, West LA, South Bay and Malibu, Food Forward has opened its second branch in Ventura County
